Fastest route: use Settings → Send feedback inside the app. It attaches your app version automatically, which usually saves a round trip. Otherwise email contact@trovario.net.
Trovario is made by a very small team. We aim to reply within a few working days.
Identifications come from a machine-learning model and will sometimes be wrong. If a species is misidentified:
You can only choose from the candidates for that photo, not the whole catalogue. That is deliberate: your field guide should reflect what you actually found and photographed.
Each region has a curated base set. Anything outside it is still catchable. It appears as a Secret Rare and does not count against the base-set total. If you think something belongs in the base set for your region, tell us.
Many species are seasonal. The guide shows what is realistically findable now; out-of-season entries tell you when to look again. Northern Hemisphere seasonality only, for the moment.
The model was not confident enough to commit. Get closer, fill more of the frame with the subject, avoid heavy backlight, and photograph a distinctive part: a leaf and flower for a plant, the whole body for an insect.
Your field guide and all your catches work offline. Identification needs a connection. Photos taken offline are saved on your phone. When you're back online, tap "Identify your offline photo" on the camera to identify them.
No. Everything lives on your device and there is no cloud sync yet. If you delete the app, your catches are gone and we cannot restore them. An iPhone backup that includes app data is the only way to preserve them.
Yes, in the app's Settings, or in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Trovario. The app works fully without it.
Yes, in the app's Settings. See the privacy policy for exactly what is and isn't recorded.
No. Never eat, taste, touch or handle anything based on a Trovario identification. It is a game and a field guide, not an authority, and it is wrong often enough to hurt you. See the terms.
Trovario has no accounts and stores your catches on your device. Photos you submit for identification are sent to a third party that retains them. Section 4 of the privacy policy explains what that means. For access or deletion requests, email contact@trovario.net.
Trovario is in beta. The Plants section is the polished one; Bugs and other crawlers are earlier and rougher. Bug reports from the beta are useful, so please send them.
